This project addressed the need to enhance Connect Education's core educational platform beyond their website presence, focusing on improving the actual learning and teaching tools used by their community. The solution involved redesigning user flows for educators and parents, implementing intuitive navigation systems, and optimizing the platform's functionality for both instructional delivery and family engagement. Through user research and iterative design processes, we created a more accessible and efficient learning environment that supported diverse educational needs while maintaining consistency across devices, ultimately improving user satisfaction scores and strengthening the connection between teachers, parents, and students in the digital learning space.

THE PROCESS

Our process at Connect Education Inc. is based on Lean UX and Agile methodology. By integrating Lean UX principles into the Agile methodology, teams can create a powerful process that ensures products are not only developed efficiently but are also deeply aligned with user needs and goals. We aim to incorporate the key phases of Continuous Feedback, User-Centered Design, Adaptation, Shared Ownership, and Fast Iterations in our platform.

THE PROBLEM

Before Connect Education Inc. hired a designer position, a beta release of the platform had been implemented on a responsive website with mobile or desktop since 2022.

These mockups were created without any usability testing and had consideration for the technical and product limitations on the scope of work. I conducted research interviews with our primary users and teammates to discover any pain points that they were experiencing with the beta release. Also, I was starting to do competitor research in US and Canada to find out how to increase more users on our platform.

My research encompassed:
- Understanding the user goals and needs
- Find out pain points with the existing user journey
- Determining the success of the tasks measured
- Revamping the existing user experience  of the new prototype
- Creating a new marketing strategy to increase users

INSIGHTS FOR REVAMPING

During my tenure as a UX/UI Designer at Connect Education Inc., I actively participated in revamping the beta version of the platform alongside my talented teammates. This collaborative effort allowed us to gain valuable insights into the platform's functionality and user experience, resulting in the identification of several key areas for improvement:

User Journey Enhancements

Through collective brainstorming sessions, we scrutinized the user journey to uncover pain points and bottlenecks. This enabled us to create more intuitive pathways for teachers, parents, and students, ultimately streamlining their interactions with the platform. Some of the user interfaces will be easier to use, for example, we provided more specific options that the user can select their lesson date directly.

Feedback-Driven Iterations

By engaging in iterative design reviews and conducting usability tests within our team including the teammate and target users, we pinpointed areas where the platform's usability could be enhanced. We will ask about their options to confirm the design. This feedback loop proved instrumental in refining interactions, layouts, and overall user satisfaction.

Responsive Design Optimization

Our collaborative approach revealed the need for better responsive design across various devices. By tackling this challenge collectively, we ensured a consistent and compelling experience for users regardless of their preferred device.

Data-Backed Decision Making

Leveraging insights from Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager, we were able to identify usage patterns and behaviors. This data-driven approach guided our decisions and led to adjustments that aligned with actual user needs.

Holistic Platform Understanding

By working closely with diverse team members, including developers and project managers, I gained a comprehensive understanding of the platform's technical aspects and its overarching goals. This cross-functional collaboration allowed us to align our design choices with the platform's strategic vision.
Our collaborative efforts to revamp the beta version of the Connect Education Inc. platform brought about insightful discoveries. Through iterative design, data-driven insights, and comprehensive team collaboration, we are continuing to identify and addressed key challenges, setting the stage for an improved user experience that resonates with teachers, parents, and students alike.
